We are LCL: Interview with Laura Wall

Currently most active through London Cylce Link’s Advocacy Committee as well as in her role as one of our first cycling camp trainers, Laura Wall made a conscious decision to get back into cycling in her late 40s, taking up triathlon for fun and fitness. Connecting with LCL aligns with Wall’s need to be part of the movement for better local cycling infrastructure.

Q: When you picture yourself riding a bike, what comes to your mind first?

A: I think of moving my head a lot, looking around to see what’s happening around me, but also being present in the moment, having the wind in my hair, the smells, especially in the summer, and feeling really clear.

Q: What is the best thing that has happened to you on a bike?

A: So many of the experiences you have while you're on a bicycle are “best” experiences, but I think one of the more recent best experiences has been using my bike to get groceries, which is something I started last summer. I’m very proud of how much I can load up in my paniers and my backpack. about one of the more recent grocery trips.  Somebody was commenting, he was intrigued as I was packing up about whether I could get everything in my paniers. And the last thing I was putting in was the eggs. I told him I hadn't broken any. That gives me great satisfaction, and it's still true!

Q: Can you finish this sentence: I support London Cycle Link / Squeaky Wheel because...

A: I support London Cycle Link because together, mobilizing around the opportunities that cycling gives all of us, is how we will really move forward the kind of infrastructure, the kind of access, the kind of equity we need for cycling in London.
